In March 2019, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus art school, the German Foreign Ministry allocated a budget to support Bauhaus-related projects as part of the Cultural Heritage Conservation Program.
The German embassy in Israel chose to commemorate the event with a filmed tour of the German Ambassador to Israel Dr. Susanne Wasum-Rainer of the Bauhaus centers in Haifa with Mayor Dr. Einat Kalisch Rotem and Mr. Waleed Karkabi, Director of the Department of Building and Site Conservation.
After discussions with professional parties in Haifa's municipality and in light of the municipality's willingness to invest in raising awareness of the Bauhaus heritage in Haifa, the Cultural Attaché of the German Embassy, Mr. Richard Hayato Yamato, made an exceptional request from the German Foreign Ministry to add Haifa to the list of grant applicants.
the project which was submitted is called "Visibility of Bauhaus in Haifa", a building signage project designed to ensure that the legacy of modernist architects and the spirit of Bauhaus will not be forgotten and will not disappear. In the first stage, the municipality will install 70 aluminum signs in three languages (Hebrew, Arabic and English), which will be placed nearby the selected International Style buildings. In the second stage of the project, a website will be established with information about the sign-bearing buildings and recommendations for tours of the sites.
