 General information and special features
Established in the beginning of the 18th century, Rosario is the third largest city in the Argentine Republic. The city is an urban center for regional development in Argentina, and a locus of commercial and business activity in the heart of the country's agricultural province. It is located in the southern part of the Santa Fe province, along the shores of the Paraná River, 300 kilometers south-west to the capital, Buenos Aires.

Geographically, the city is located in the strategic center of the Mercosur, the free trade zone between Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Chile, a fact that grants the city an important status. Rosario has various sites of importance, such as the National Flag Memorial commemorating Manuel Belgrano, the creator of the Argentinian flag, and the house of famous revolutionary Che Guevara, who was born in the city in 1928.

Economy
Agriculture is the main source of income in Rosario and its surroundings, especially grain and its products. The produce export in the area amounts to 65-70 percent of Argentina's total produce export. Soya is one of the most important yields in Rosario. The province of Sane Fe produces some 5 tons of soya annually, and most of it, along with almost 4.5 tons from nearby provinces, is processed in Rosario. The city has a modern infrastructure of services that support industry and commerce – a network of roads and railways that connect Rosario to urban and industrial centers such as Santa Fe, Mendoza and Tucuman, as well as to other centers outside the borders of Argentina; the Port of Greater Rosario is a large harbor with twelve terminals, located at an intersection of commerce routes of two oceans - the Pacific and the Atlantic. In 1992 the port reached a record shipping of over 17 million tons.

Culture
Rosario's cultural life is very rich, and many artists and musicians made it their home. This is why the city boasts many cultural establishments, including theatres. Every 7th of October the city celebrates its establishment with impressive colorful festivities.

The Haifa-Rosario Twin Cities Treaty was signed on March 10, 1988.
